Francine's Musings

Happy New Year!

Here we are again at the beginning of a brand New Year. Are you armed with fresh resolutions, and are bound and determined to see them through? Perhaps, you want to shed a few pounds? ...to get fit? ...to take that art class? ...to get your closet organized? ...to quit eating junk food? ...to stop smoking? ...to drink less? ...to get a handle on your finances?

Here are a few tips that have helped me with all my lists, including, to-do lists and New Year resolutions. When I follow these four steps, I end up with more life enjoyment, and a greater sense of flow, accomplishment and fulfillment. When I don't, I end up spinning my wheels, feeling frustrated, guilty and dissatisfied. Don't take my word for it, give it a try and find out for yourself! If you need help, do not hesitate to contact me.

Follow your Body Clues

Are you sure that your resolutions reflect what you really want? Are you doing this to please or emulate your mother, mate, magazines, TV? Is your list populated with items you believe you "have to do" but don't feel like doing? It's time you looked at your list again and populate it with things that make you feel good, that matter to YOU. How about checking with your body? As you read each item on your list, imagine yourself doing that activity, and notice how your body reacts. Is it relaxed? Open? If so, you're on the right track. Is it tensing up? if so, you're on the wrong track. Follow your body clues.

Keep it Short

Is your list too long? Personally, when I have too much on my plate, I easily get overwhelmed, go into frustrated mode, become exhausted, give up in tears, and end up doing ... Hum ..., NOTHING. And I end the day with a huge guilt chip on my shoulder.

Imitate the Turtle

Is your timeline realistic? Are you trying to get it all done yesterday? Again, you hit the overwhelm button and do nothing. Adopt the turtle as your personal mascot. Remember the turtle and the hare. Tiny turtle steps add up to great strides over time.

Have some FUN

Are you pushing and pushing hard towards your goal and having no fun? Leave the miserable stuff of life with Les Misérables and check out Happy Days! Establish a list of rewards you can readily draw from as you succeed in each step along the way. Whether you take time to enjoy the sunset, watch your favorite movie, listen to the birds flying by, smell your favorite food, or, take a bubble bath. Whatever feels rewarding to you! Create a reward list and DO IT.
